This is the eighth in a series of posts to get you revved-up, signed-up and informed about the PSA Trek.

New for 2010, Philmont has established a crew leadership position called Wilderness Pledge Guia (Spanish for “guide”). The guia will work with the Ranger to help the crew understand the principles of the Philmont Wilderness Pledge and Leave No Trace camping practices. The guia will help the crew focus on camping practices that adhere to the ethics outlined in both of these approaches.

You or your Trek-eligible family members can be one of the very first Wilderness Pledge guias — but you can’t do it if you are sitting at home this summer. The only way you can be a guia is to participate in the 2010 PSA Trek!

In addition to this new crew leadership position, Trekkers will be needed to serve as crew leaders, advisors and chaplain’s aides. A Philmont crew works best with a youth crew leader, and for those of you with Trek-eligible youths, this is their perfect opportunity to take charge of a group of adults!

If you or your Trek-eligible family members have always wanted to serve in a crew leadership position, register now, join a crew, and begin showing your crewmates your leadership qualities. Who knows? They may elect you something!
