The Philmont Staff Association’s 2009 Annual Reunion promises to be special weekend for you and your guests. The weekend of July 24-26 will provide you opportunities to revive your memories and experiences gained from your previous life at Philmont. The Service Committee has worked to make this reunion memorable.
The 2009 Reunion, which we are calling the Rayado Rendezvous, is going to be a unique experience compared to past PSA gatherings. Our weekend will take place at Rayado, home of the Kit Carson Museum. This site will allow us to witness life along the Santa Fe Trail, circa 1850’s. Some of the weekend’s activities will include blacksmithing, tomahawk throwing, frontier skills, and black powder rifle shooting. There are also tours of Kit Carson’s home and garden on the schedule.
On Friday night, July 24th, we will be honoring long-time Philmont Museum director and writer Steve Zimmer with the Silver Sage award. There will also be a candlelight walk around the Kit Carson complex.
Saturday evening will feature a rare opportunity for Reunion attendees. Three backcountry camps will serve as our locations for dinner. You can dine at Zastrow, Abreu, or Carson Meadows, depending on your walking preference and space limits provided by Philmont. Each camp’s staff will have a specially prepared dinner for us to enjoy.
Philmont will still be working at full capacity during our reunion weekend. While we are having fun, we need to remember that we are ambassadors of the PSA to the present staff. Every thing we do while at Philmont as guests reflects on our organization. Remember, you are not on the staff anymore, so don’t enter staff areas unless you’re invited. Their number one priority is to serve the campers; not to amuse us. However, feel free to interact with the staff, as long a you are not interfering with their ability to do their job.
We look forward to seeing you at the Ranch. Please review the enclosed materials carefully. There is important information that is necessary for you to review in order to plan for the weekend accordingly.
Please return via mail or email the enclosed arrival plans form. This will help us with planning and preparation for the reunion. We are planning a variety of activities from a strenuous hike up the stockade trail to the Tooth to more leisurely activities.
I will see you back at the Ranch in late July.
