Dear Phil-Staffers:

Hi! I thought some of our more recent Phil-Staffers/current college students might be interested in this event that I am helping plan through the American Camp Association, called the Student Camp Leadership Academy(SCLA).

The Student Camp Leadership Academy is a weekend retreat that brings together students, camp professionals, national ACA staff and leadership to explore, learn, and understand what the camp professional of the future must be and the leadership opportunities within the ACA structure at the Section and National levels to impact the development of youth and others. Visit the SCLA site for a brief history and overview.

The 2009 SCLA will take place from November 6-8, 2009 at Camp Henry Horner, near Ingleside, Illinois (not far from Chicago or Milwaukee for those that want to fly-in for the event).

The registration fee is $130. However, a number of scholarships to cover the fee are available through the various ACA section offices. For example, the ACA-Indiana Section is providing 3-5 scholarships to student members of ACA-Indiana. In the past, one individual is sponsoring one student scholarship for a student from anywhere is the U.S. who has worked at a YMCA camp.

If you do not secure a scholarship, you can still attend by paying the registration fee on your own; have your summer camp pay the fee, or a University can pay the fee. However, all students must apply through their local ACA section office and be approved by the ACA section to participate regardless of payment method.

All applications should be postmarked by October 2nd, 2009 and mailed/e-mailed to the students’ local ACA section office. Details for the application process and addresses of the ACA section offices are on the SCLA web site.

For more information, please visit the SCLA web site at http://acacamps.org/scla/ or feel free to call or e-mail me at the contact information below.

The SCLA Planning Committee would greatly appreciate any help that you can provide in disseminating information about this unique learning opportunity to interested college students.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
