The Philmont Museums and Philmont Scout Ranch are very proud to introduce the new Philmont Online Archives!

post_DocArchivesAs with many successful projects, these archives are the result of years of creative foresight, dedication and labor, spanning over three decades. Beginning in 1980, Steve Zimmer, former Director of the Philmont Museum-Seton Memorial Library, foresaw the importance of collecting past and present Philmont program literature. The result is a formal archive now spanning 75 years. As the online age blossomed, David Setzer, Tom Wills, Al Thompson and others from the Patriots’ Path Council came to Philmont’s Director of Program, Mark Anderson, and proposed the idea to make these documents available online. For ten years the Watchu Organization with cooperation from the Philmont Museums, oversaw this project scanning and uploading hundreds of documents to the Watchu Website.

This summer, the Watchu Organization felt it was time for the Philmont Museums to take over the project. It was then that Philmont’s Marketing Manager, Bryan Hayek, took on the challenge to creative and implement the research friendly format you now can access at:

Over the upcoming years Philmont anticipates this archive growing dramatically to eventually include a sister archive containing articles and documents of the vibrant history which has happened in the Philmont country.
