“In Blood and Thunder, Hampton Sides gives us a magnificent history of the American conquest of the West. At the center of this sweeping tale is Kit Carson, the trapper, scout, and soldier whose adventures made him a legend. Sides shows us how this illiterate mountain man understood and respected the Western tribes better than any other American, yet willingly followed orders that would ultimately devastate the Navajo nation. Rich in detail and spanning more than three decades, this is an essential addition to our understanding of how the West was really won.” ~ Random House
Mr. Sides will be presenting and signing copies of Blood and Thunder at the Seton Memorial Library at the Philmont Museum.
Steven Havill signs at the Seton Museum on June 27 at 1 pm in the library. Steven resides in Raton and writes southwestern fiction. His latest book is titled Fourth Time is Murder.
Mary Stuever, author of The Forester’s Log, is scheduled for July 24 at 1 pm.
The Seton plans at least one more signing–hopefully Hampton Sides–but the details aren’t worked out yet.
Christopher Lothers is assisting Seth McFarland of the Seton Museum to create a display of camping gear used over the years at Philmont. He would appreciate any information you can provide regarding the type of gear used for camping, backpacking, and other outdoor activities from the years 1939 to present day.
