2022 PSA Reunion: Celebrating 50 Years of the Service Academy Ranger Program and Women Rangers

When was the last time you were at Philmont? Was it when you served as a Ranger? Have you been fortunate enough to return on a trek with your son or daughter, or have you attended one of the sessions at the Philmont Training Center?

We invite all PSA members and their families to join us in 2022 for the Annual PSA Reunion. 2022 is the 50th Anniversary of the Service Academy Ranger Program and the Women Rangers . The schedule will include activities and programs suited for all members of the PSA, even if you didn’t have direct involvement with the Ranger Department over the years. PTC Family Adventure will be offered during the week leading up to the Reunion, so bring your families out early to experience the Philmont Adventure.

Reunion schedule:

Our planning committee has been hard at work for well over a year planning and drafting our activities, programs, speakers and more.  Rest assured, there will be plenty of activities to keep you and your families busy. More details about the schedule will be available Fall ‘21.  Once pricing has been determined, there will be comprehensive details on the pricing and refund policy for this reunion.

Above all else, the PSA values our fellowship and community of members and we aim to offer the best quality of reunion possible, while providing as much detail as available so you and your loved ones can plan to participate in the capacity in which you are able and comfortable to do so. If you have specific questions not answered here, please contact the PSA Office at [email protected]

If you are on Facebook, please consider joining our group “Philmont Service Academy Rangers” to stay updated about upcoming events. We will be posting a 2022 Reunion Survey to the page in coming months.

Then again, a lot has changed – there have been fires and floods, land purchases and expansions, just to name a few. Several new buildings were added to Base Camp, including our brand new PSA office located next to the National Boy Scout Museum. Both of those were funded by donations from PSA members and other great friends of Philmont.

You have been a big part of the 80+ year history of Philmont! And, like you, many service academy graduates have left a lasting mark on Philmont since USAFA first started sending cadets as Rangers in 1972:

  • Gen. David Goldfein, USAFA ‘76, current Air Force Chief of Staff, was a Philmont Ranger and the 2019 recipient of the PSA’s Distinguished Staff Alumni award
  • Col (Ret) Rick Searfoss, USAFA ‘78 was a USAFA Ranger, an astronaut, and the 2013 recipient of the PSA’s Distinguished Staff Alumni award
  • The US Air Force Academy received the 2012 PSA Silver Sage award for extraordinary service, recognizing 40 years of working with Philmont

You can help

In the past, Philmont has not kept a good record of the service academy rangers. We have changed the process going forward in 2019. However, we need your help in updating your information in our database to reflect your status as a service academy ranger. Please contact Dollie O’Neill, the PSA Executive Director, at 575-376-1138 to update your information.

While you’re here, check out the rest of the PSA website and all the great information it offers. Consider becoming a member of the PSA and enjoying all the benefits that come with membership. Maybe you’ll reconnect with that old tent mate or TR (now called RT’s). Enjoy reading our bimonthly publication “High Country.” Join us for the reunion weekend in the summer. Better yet, put together a crew of fellow staff alumni and their families and take part in a 5-day, 4-night PSA trek to the backcountry camps of your choosing during the annual PSA Autumn Adventure trek.

Mark your calendar for the annual summer PSA reunion in 2022. We will be celebrating the history of the service academy rangers along with the 50th anniversary of the USAFA Ranger program. There will be activities for all family members during the reunion, as well as a great opportunity to participate in the summer PSA trek with some of your fellow service academy rangers, classmates, and their families.

Please keep checking back to this page, as we continue to update and grow it with more information about the role of all the service academies in the history of Philmont.
