Description
Marty Tschetter was a Philmont staff member from 1988 to 1996 and a PSA Life Member. He started on staff in the base camp dining hall, and also served in the Logistics Department before becoming a Ranger, Training Ranger, and Associate Chief Ranger. Marty was an original founder of the OA Trail Crew program, and in 1995 he was selected to be the Associate Director of Conservation for this new program, a role he continued in 1996. Marty was a lifelong historian, passionate about Scouting history, and co-authored the book “I Wanna Go Back, Stories of the Philmont Rangers.” He was also interested in the history of baseball, and as the history librarian for the City of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Marty took special interest in telling the history of those whose stories had not yet been told. Marty was well-known for wearing old Boy Scout uniforms, writing hand-written notes to friends and acquaintances, his quirky sense of humor, his ability to connect Scouts across generations, and most importantly, his dedication to the highest ideals of Scouting and the Order of the Arrow. He was a friend and brother to many, and will be dearly missed. Contributions to this scholarship fund in Marty’s honor will benefit Scouts who are members of the Order of the Arrow and would not otherwise be able to participate in the Order of the Arrow Trail Crew program at Philmont Scout Ranch.
Philmont is owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America and is the largest youth camp in the world. Set in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico, Philmont provides the opportunity every summer for tens of thousands of Scouts to have a wilderness experience that lasts a lifetime.
This scholarship will go to a OATC Youth member.
